With the latest expansion of the auto-mode claim settlement, the organization is set to significantly reduce service delivery times and broaden the scope of claims that can be processed automatically.     A shining example of EPFO’s efficiency is the case of Shri Anirudh Prasad. On May 9, 2024, Prasad applied for an advance for illness under para 68J. Remarkably, his claim was settled within just three days, resulting in a payout of Rs. 92,143 on May 11, 2024. Such rapid processing times are becoming more common, thanks to EPFO’s commitment to leveraging technology for service enhancement.

    Expansion of Auto-Mode Settlement

    Initially introduced in April 2020 for illness-related claims up to Rs. 50,000, the auto-mode settlement has proven to be highly effective. Recognizing its success, EPFO has now expanded this facility to include claims for education, marriage, and housing purposes under para 68K and 68B of the EPF Scheme, 1952. Furthermore, the claim limit for auto-mode settlement has been doubled to Rs. 1,00,000. This expansion is expected to benefit approximately 2.25 crore members in the current year alone.

    During the financial year 2023-24, EPFO settled an impressive 4.45 crore claims, of which more than 60% were advance claims. Notably, 89.52 lakh of these advance claims were processed using the auto-mode system. This high adoption rate underscores the system’s efficiency and reliability.

    The IT-driven auto-settlement process eliminates human intervention, significantly reducing the settlement period from the traditional 10 days to just 3-4 days. Claims that are not automatically validated are subjected to a second level of scrutiny, ensuring no valid claim is rejected outright.

    The expanded scope and increased limits of auto-mode settlement are poised to bring substantial benefits to EPFO members.
